The Return of The Twister Fries

Text by: Kurt Hagamann | Photos by: Nicky Triviño

McDonald’s has finally returned the ever-so-popular variation to the already famous French fries. The Twister Fries have come back in full force to the regular menu of McDonald’s fast food restaurants all over Metro Manila much to the joy of those faithful to Ronald McDonald. People have been clamoring to McDonald’s to bring back these fries for a while now since these treats haven’t been available since mid-2000.

Even though the Twister Fries have always been one of the most popular items on the McDonald’s menu, they’ve never been a permanent fixture on the regular roster of fast food offered by the food chain. This could be a clever marketing ploy on their part since they know of the extreme popularity of these items with the customers. Think about it: People love and buy the twister fries like crazy, so if you give it to them in little increments during separate periods of time, they will gobble up the little that is offered. That way, the fries will always have their mystique since the people can’t get tired of them because they are offered for a limited time only. This is all really annoying because personally, even if they were offered all the time, people would not tire of them because they are that damn good!

How delicious are these Twister Fries? Some might say that they are impossibly delectable because of the nice salty taste that they have. Others are attracted by the aesthetic qualities of these snacks. Their spiral shape gives a playful twist (no pun intended) to eating the food. They offer a nice alternative to the less salty yet equally (maybe not) delicious fries that are regularly offered. Nevertheless, McDonald’s is sure to have their sales boosted for as long as they keep the Twister fries around. They seem to be on the right track as they are now pairing up this item with the current Disney flick that’s famous with the kids: Finding Nemo. Mickey D’s really can’t go wrong with a combination like that. Now only if they would bring the price down from P38.
